About me

Meet the blogger
In short: I’m a girl who drinks too much tea and cries over fictional characters.

But allow me to introduce myself properly. Hi everyone! I’m Philippa and I’m a 24-year-old book lover. My main passions are reading, cooking, and travelling. In the summer of 2012 I graduated with a BA in English Language and Culture from the University of Amsterdam, which explains my love for books and why I read almost exclusively in English. I am currently living in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, to do an MSc Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh. This is predominantly a book blog, though  I will blog about other things when I feel like it. I started this blog because I love to read and talk about books, and because I love meeting other people who love books just as much as I do. But like I said, this isn’t just a book blog. I love cooking and travelling, so occasionally I will post some of my recipes and if I go on holiday, or visit somewhere particularly nice in my own country, I’ll tell you all about it as well.

I’m always here for a chat or a nice discussion, so drop me a message or add me as a friend on Goodreads if you like.

Thank you for visiting!

About me as a reader

I love to read, pure and simple. I’ve been a bookworm since the day I taught myself how to read when I was barely 5 years old – no lie, my parents were in shock when I suddenly started reading stuff out loud to them in the backseat of the car. I wouldn’t say that I love to read anything and everything, because I do have some preferences when it comes to genres, but I do have a broad and varied taste in books.

The genres you will most often find on this blog are literary fiction, historical fiction, and Middle Eastern fiction. These are the genres that I prefer to read, but naturally I don’t just limit myself to just those 3 genres.

Favourite genres
Classics – especially Victorian Lit
Historical novels – mostly Tudor Court and Medieval settings
Literary fiction
Contemporary fiction
YA
Fantasy (but not too much)
Dystopian
MENA (Middle East and North African)
(Auto)biographies
Crime fiction
Non-fiction
Poetry

Genres you will (probably) not find on this blog
Romance (especially the really soppy ones)
Anything with zombies or vampires (unless it’s Dracula, that one I love)
Self-help books
Science fiction (unless it’s Doctor Who or Hitchhiker’s Guide)
Chick lit
Horror
Paranormal
Comics and graphic novels
